Dear gentle JP readers
What a fantastic and busy month it’s been here at James’ Place!
From the excitement of our Easter party at James’ Place Andover to visits from our local police and fire services, we’ve packed in a wide range of memorable activities. We’ve danced our hearts out at local shows, enjoyed friendly bowling trips, and even dipped our toes in the sea on some sunny seaside adventures. It’s been a month full of laughter, community spirit, and wonderful shared moments — just the way we like it!
What a Party!
On the last week before the Easter weekend, we were invited to an Easter party at James’ Place Andover — a celebration that truly brought the spirit of spring to life. The main hall there was beautifully decorated for the occasion, with every corner radiating colour. Bright balloon displays, bunny ears, paper chicks, and garlands of spring flowers adorned the walls and tables, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere for everyone to enjoy. The staff at Andover had done a marvellous job.
Our members were full of smiles as they took part in a variety of Easter-themed activities. A lively arts and crafts session gave everyone the chance to express their creativity — making easter bonnets, decorative eggs, and spring badges there was a variety of crafts to choose from. The room was filled with conversation and laughter as everyone got stuck into the crafts, sharing ideas and helping one another along the way.
Adding to the excitement, we had a very special guest — the Easter Bunny! With a basket full of treats, the Easter Bunny made their way around the home, bringing smiles, hugs, and chocolate eggs to everyone. The members lit up as they posed for photos, received goodies, and enjoyed the playful surprise. It was a heartwarming moment that brought out the childlike joy in us all.
The fun didn’t stop there — we also organised a series of light-hearted games, including a cheerful Easter scavenger hunt that brought out everyone’s competitive spirit! There were lots of giggles and chocolate covered faces, but mostly a great sense of camaraderie and celebration.
Of course, no party would be complete without a spread of tasty treats. Our team prepared a delicious array of Easter goodies — from chocolate nests and cupcakes topped with mini eggs. There was even a beautifully decorated Easter cake (made by Andover’s DLM Sarah) that became the centrepiece of the afternoon tea.
It was a truly special day at James’ Place, filled with fun, friendship, and a sprinkle of Easter magic.
A Dazzling Dance Show
Our members had the chance to experience the thrill of live performance by attending a fantastic local dance show at Alton College. The show was themed around Musical Theatre and featured an exciting mix of performances inspired by well-loved musicals. From the retro vibes of Grease and the elegance of Cats to the energy of Matilda, Hairspray, and Singing in the Rain, the show had everyone tapping their toes. The performance ended on a high note with a show-stopping finale inspired by The Greatest Showman, leaving the audience buzzing with excitement. It was a delight to see everyone clapping along, smiling, and appreciating the talent on display.
Bowling with Friends
Nothing brings people together quite like a bit of friendly competition — and our bowling trips this month were a perfect example of just that! Residents had the opportunity to visit the local bowling alley, Hollywood Bowl. The members really enjoyed spending time together in a relaxed fun atmosphere. We plan to go back again very soon!
Community Friends
This month, we had the pleasure of welcoming members of our local police and fire services to James’ Place — and what a memorable experience it was for everyone involved! These visits were a wonderful opportunity to connect with the dedicated individuals who work tirelessly to keep our community safe.
Our visit from the local police was led by the friendly and approachable PC Andrew, who was a big hit with everyone. He spent time chatting with members, answering questions about life on the force, and sharing stories from his time serving the community. One of the most exciting moments was when members got the chance to see the police car up close — with the lights flashing and sirens blaring! The smiles were wide as everyone took turns sitting in the front seat and learning about the equipment inside the vehicle.
Shortly after, our local fire service rolled in with their bright red fire engine, capturing everyone’s attention straight away. The firefighters were incredibly engaging, offering a hands-on tour of the truck and demonstrating how some of the life-saving equipment works. The highlight for many was when the crew set up the fire hose — and members were invited to have a go at spraying water themselves! With lots of laughter and enthusiasm, they aimed at the duck pond and gave it a good soaking, turning the activity into a fun and memorable moment.
These visits were more than just exciting experiences; they also created meaningful opportunities for learning and connection. Members asked thoughtful questions, shared their own stories, and came away with a greater understanding of the vital work these services do. These friendly interactions helped build trust and break down barriers.
We are incredibly grateful to PC Andrew and the fantastic teams from our local police and fire services for taking the time to spend the day with us. The visits left a lasting impression — and we’re already looking forward to welcoming them back again in the future!
