Dear gentle JP readers November has been a wonderfully busy month here at James’ Place, filled with moments that brought our community together in creativity, reflection, and celebration. From the excitement of Bonfire Night crafts to the thoughtful activities marking Remembrance Day, our members have been immersed in hands-on projects that encouraged both expression and connection. We also came together to support Children in Need, embracing the spirit of giving that makes this event so special. And as part of Kindness Week, our community took time to celebrate the small acts that make a big difference, showing that compassion is truly at the heart of everything we do. Join us as we look back on all the colourful, meaningful, and joy-filled moments that made this November one to remember.
Explosive Fun!
Our members spent time learning all about Bonfire Night and the fascinating history behind it, discovering how the events of the Gunpowder Plot shaped the traditions we still celebrate today. They explored why the 5th of November is remembered across the country, discussing how communities come together each year with fireworks, bonfires, and storytelling. To make the learning even more exciting, members took part in a series of colourful science experiments inspired by fireworks themselves. Using vinegar, baking soda, and washing-up liquid, they created their own “exploding fireworks” in our tuff trays. As the mixtures reacted, they fizzed, foamed, and burst into vibrant patterns, filling the trays with swirling colours and energetic pops. It was a fun, hands-on way for our members to link history with science.
Lest We Forget
Our members spent time learning about Remembrance Day and the history behind this important national tradition. They explored why we pause on the 11th of November each year—honouring the soldiers and civilians who served and sacrificed during times of conflict and reflecting on the importance of peace. To mark the occasion in a meaningful way, our members joined forces with the local community in Cliddesden to create a beautiful poppy display for the village church. Through crafting, conversation, and collaboration, they helped produce a heartfelt tribute that brought everyone together in remembrance and respect.
Children in Need 2025
At JP Basingstoke, our members threw themselves wholeheartedly into this year’s Children in Need celebrations, where the theme was all about the number 25. Throughout the week, the centre was buzzing with activity as members took on a variety of fun and meaningful challenges. They kicked things off with 25 minutes of non-stop dancing, filling the room with energy, laughter, and plenty of Pudsey-themed moves. In the kitchen, members worked together to bake 25 delicious cupcakes, decorating them with bright colours and sprinkles before sharing them with the wider community. The fun continued with 25 different games, ranging from quick-fire puzzles to active outdoor challenges, ensuring everyone could get involved. To round out the week, members also completed 25 calming yoga poses, promoting mindfulness and wellbeing while supporting a great cause. The enthusiasm and teamwork shown throughout the week were truly inspiring, and the sense of community spirit shone brightly. Thanks to the dedication of our members, staff, families, and supporters, we raised an incredible £800!!—a wonderful achievement that highlights the kindness and generosity at the heart of James’ Place Basingstoke.
The Little Things Make the Biggest Impact
During Kindness Week, our members embraced the opportunity to spread positivity throughout our community. They worked together to bake delicious biscuits for the residents of our local care home, Dashwood Manor, delivering them along with a beautiful bouquet of flowers to brighten everyone’s day. Their acts of kindness didn’t stop there—members also took part in a community clean-up, litter picking around our local area and Beggarwood Park. Through these thoughtful activities, our members showed how small gestures can make a big difference, showing the caring spirit that lies at the heart of James’ Place.
November has been a month full of learning, creativity, and community spirit. Our members embraced every activity with enthusiasm—from celebrations and charity events to acts of kindness. We’re proud of all they’ve achieved and look forward to more exciting moments as we head into the festive season.
