Despite the February rain, spirits remained high at James’ Place during a very busy month.
Talent Showcase
Our first week focused on “Talent,” and our members certainly delivered. Activities ranged from still art and self-portrait painting to karaoke.
Members shared their skills by leading sessions in table tennis, darts, puzzles, baking, and yoga, inspiring their peers and assisting the team along the way. We also enjoyed a special screening of a film created by one of our talented videographers, which showcased all James’ Place locations and the diverse talents of our community.
To top off the week, we visited our local Toby Carvery for a roast. This was a wonderful opportunity for members to practice independent skills, such as queuing for food and drinks, while enjoying a meal with friends.
Valentine’s and Palentines
Love was in the air as we decorated our windows with beaded hearts and created handmade cards. We enjoyed a mirroring exercise to encourage connection and treated ourselves to homemade heart biscuits during tea break.
In the garden, our volunteer Sara has been helping us weed and plan for the spring. Members created garden planners and went on a shopping trip to purchase blackberry and redcurrant plants as we look forward to growing more fruit to support local wildlife
Chinese New Year and Healthy Habits
We began the week with a “Zen” spa day, featuring head and hand massages, foot spas, and relaxation music.
Our wellbeing focus continued with activities centered on positive affirmations.
To celebrate Chinese New Year, we practiced using chopsticks and created our own fortune cookies to swap with friends.
Experiment Week
Our final week was dedicated to science. Members participated in “sink or swim” tests, predicting the buoyancy of various objects based on their materials. We also built rockets using a fizzy mixture to attempt garden launches and created vibrant firework pictures using salt and paint.
Finally, we are preparing to open our doors on Saturday 7th March for our Open Day. We look forward to welcoming visitors from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Feel free to come and meet us.
