August has brought us towards the fading light of summer, but the temperatures remain high — and so does the energy here in Eastleigh!

Week 1 — Harvest, Herbs & Happy Chaos

We kicked off the month by celebrating the start of the harvest season. As farmers across the countryside began cutting their crops, we shared a little of that harvest magic here in Eastleigh too.

Our week started with a sunny trip to the garden centre, where members enjoyed a wonderful sensory experience choosing herbs for our very own little herb garden. There were some very mixed opinions!

Some herbs were declared absolutely delicious, while others received the lessthan glowing review of… STINKY!”

Once we’d made our selections, it was time to get planting. There was plenty of digging, planting and, naturally, a generous amount of mess. Because really, what’s a garden project without getting your hands dirty?

Of course, no crop field is complete without the odd scarecrow… or two! so members put their creative skills to work designing their very own perfect scarecrows. We had some wonderfully imaginative creations, each with their own unique style and personality.

Then things got competitive!

With temperatures climbing, we decided that a spot of apple bobbing was the perfect way to cool things down.  Members were absolutely brilliant, showing impressive determination and some seriously speedy apple-retrieving skills. There were plenty of laughs along the way, and nobody seemed too worried about getting a little soggy!

Thursday was our Lunch Club, and this month we went for colourful fajita poke bowls. They were a fabulous rainbow of colours, flavours and textures, with everyone getting involved in creating their own delicious combination.

We also created our very own farm shop experience, where members could practise choosing and buying fruit and vegetables. Once our shopping was complete, we put our produce to another creative use — painting with fruit and vegetables!

Who knew a farm shop could double up as an art studio?

It’s been a brilliant start to August, packed with sunshine, creativity, sensory experiences, a little healthy competition and, of course, plenty of laughter.

Week 2 — Sunshine, Construction & Outdoor Adventures

Week 2 carried on with plenty of summer fun, making the most of the sunshine and getting outside whenever we could.

Our parachute games were, as always, a firm favourite. Our parachute is absolutely massive, which means there is plenty of room for everyone to get involved — and, of course, it makes a fantastic den too! There is something about getting underneath a giant parachute that instantly turns an ordinary afternoon into an adventure.

We also enjoyed some lovely messy time in the sunshine, giving some of our garden quirks a little makeover. Members got creative repainting the stones outside, adding bright pops of colour to the garden.  It’s a lovely way to keep our outdoor space cheerful and colourful, especially when the days start getting shorter and the summer light begins to fade.

Staying active was also high on the agenda. A lively game of mini basketball got everyone moving and kept the blood pumping, while our lakeside and local woodland walks gave us a chance to enjoy the cooler shade and take in the scenery.

Then things got a little more… constructive!

We took a look at construction and decided that the best way to understand it was to get stuck in ourselves. Members made their own brown playdough “dirt”, adding sand, stones and water to create our very own pretend cement.

From there, the building began!

Members experimented with different materials and techniques to create their own structures and buildings. There was plenty of problem-solving, creativity and a fair amount of trial and error — because apparently buildings don’t always want to stand up just because we tell them to!

We finished the week with plenty of games, laughter and, most importantly, lots of opportunities to have fun together. Our friends from Basingstoke joined us for the day which just added to the fun

Week 3 — Camping, Campfires & Cosy Memories

Week 3 brought us one of the most important questions of summer…

Can you really have summer without camping?

We decided the answer was absolutely not!

We created our very own camping adventure, making tents and pretend campfires and settling down together for some proper campsite fun. There’s something rather special about sitting around a campfire — even a pretend one — sharing stories, remembering favourite moments and making brand-new memories together.

And, of course, no camping trip would be complete without the occasional s’more or two!

Once everyone was suitably fuelled with marshmallowy goodness, it was time to get silly. Our camping-themed charades proved to be a huge hit, with plenty of laughter, enthusiastic acting and more than a little general silliness.

Charades is surprisingly hard work when you’re giving it your absolute all, so after all that energy-burning, we decided it was definitely time to refuel.

Enter… cake baking!

Members got involved with creating some delicious treats, and the smell of freshly baked cakes filling the room was almost as good as eating them. Almost!

We ended the week with some truly wonderful moments together before taking on one final camping challenge, den building!

Now, we knew we had some talented den builders amongst us, but even we were impressed by just how ambitious things became.

And the big question was…

Just how many people can you actually fit into one den?

Quite a lot, as it turns out!

There were plenty of giggles, teamwork and some impressive squeezing as everyone tried to make the most of our enormous den.

It was the perfect end to a week filled with imagination, friendship, laughter and those lovely little moments that turn an ordinary week into a memorable one.

Who needs the great outdoors when you can bring the camping adventure right here to Eastleigh?

Week 4 — Seaside Fun & A Big August Finale

As we came to the end of our action-packed August, we decided there was only one way to finish the month…

A trip to the seaside!

Creativity was the order of the day as members designed their very own colourful fish. We had a wonderful collection of bright, cheerful and completely individual sea creatures — each one with its own personality and plenty of creative flair.

Then came the sandcastle competition!

Hayley was bravely recruited as our judge, although we’re not sure anyone had warned her quite how difficult this job was going to be!

How do you choose a winner when everyone is a winner?

With members creating multiple castles, Hayley eventually decided that choosing just one overall winner was far too tricky. Instead, she picked her favourite castle from each member’s collection.

And honestly… what a tough decision she had!

Every castle was different, packed with personality, creativity, sparkles and plenty of seaside cheer.

Of course, no seaside adventure would be complete without ice cream, so members had the chance to make their very own knickerbocker glories.

They looked fantastic, they were very impressive, and they disappeared very, very quickly!

We also explored the wonderful world of rock pooling. There is so much to discover at the seaside, although we did have to remember one very important thing… Those crabs pinch!

So, rather than risk losing any fingers, we decided to create our very own rock pool experience. Much safer, and considerably less likely to get pinched you when you’re not looking!

And just like that, our fantastic August came to an end.

What a month it has been! From harvests and herbs to parachutes, construction, camping, cakes, sandcastles and seaside adventures, we’ve packed an enormous amount of fun, creativity, laughter and memories into four busy weeks.

Thank you, August! You’ve been wonderful! Now… who’s ready to see what September has in store?
