This month has been filled with some fantastic trips!

Firstly, as it’s one of our favourite trips, we went on our yearly visit to Paulton’s Park, and of course, we had the best day.

We find that going to Paulton’s Park enables our members to use a variety of their skills, such as;

–          Stepping out of their comfort zone and boosting confidence by going on new rides.
–          Social awareness
–          They use their numeracy and communication skills when purchasing items at the gift shop at the end of the day or for food and drinks.
–          Walking round the park is great for mobility and even better its exercise without realising.
It enables our members to make independent choices on what they would like to do, where they would like to go and what rides they would like to go on.

This month we also came together with our Eastleigh and Basingstoke locations to take part in the Winchester Hat Fair to promote who we are and what we do out in the community.

In the run-up to this event, we were allocated a theme for us to prepare costumes to wear during the parade. Our allocated theme was ‘Music’, which is very suited to us as we love anything music-related!

We all worked extremely hard together as a team to make our own music-themed costumes for everyone at James’ Place to wear during the parade. This required many skills such as creativity, imagination, fine motor, communication and most importantly, something we do best… Teamwork! The outcome was just phenomenal!

The day was an overall success, and we had a great time taking part in the parade and showing the public just who we are!

We also took a trip to the Winchester Blue apple Theatre to watch The Wind and the Willows. Blue Apple Theatre is a disability arts organisation. They have hosted local, national and international events, pushing for accessibility to texts for people with learning disabilities. We admire their work and loved visiting and showing our support. Our members had such a lovely time and were asking to go again the minute we left!

We went to Glow Golf in Andover for the first time, and we will definitely be going again! This was a real hit with our members and enabled them to be independent, communicate with new people and explore new places to have some fun!

The members absolutely loved the sensory atmosphere with all the colourful lights and special effects on each golf course, we had lots of smiles and excitement. Some of our members have never played mini golf, it was lovely to see them trying new activities.

This week a few of us took a trip to Winchester Science Museum, it was brilliant!
The members loved exploring round the museum, meeting new people and playing games and sensory activities!
We also met up with our friends from the Basingstoke and Eastleigh locations when we were at the museum, it was lovely as we could all share the excitement of the day together.
