It has been another busy month at James’ Place Eastleigh our themes were: Rock and Roll 1960’s, Egypt, Spa and Wellness and Science and the Zodiac.
As always our themes are born from conversations with our members as we strongly advocate choice and the person centred approach.  We chat over breaks which usually leads to diverse conversations which generate our upcoming themes.
Rock and Roll/1960’s kicked off with tie dying a t-shirt or pillow case, one member was super organised and created their niece her Christmas Present (eek I have said ‘that’ word).  One of our members celebrated their 60th Birthday with us in their own way, lots of music, dancing and games.  Our members took inspiration from Andy Warhol and created their masterpieces which were really effective and would give Andy Warhol a run for his money.

Next was Egypt. We picked a good week; it was rather hot giving us the authentic feel. For our sensory seekers we made magic sand which held its shape as we re-created an Egyptian city thers enjoyed making themselves a Pharaoh’s ‘hat’ onto a photo of themselves one they could wear using sequencing skills as well as cutting and sticking carefully. We stretched our brains with Egyptian themed puzzles and stretched our bodies on cooling walks in the woods.

A Spa and Wellness week saw the return of a James’ Place favourite, our lovely therapist friend who gave hand massages to members to enjoy and foot spa treatment at the same time, we painted nails and meditated a truly Zen week.

Science and the Zodiac week found us investigating our star signs and replicating them, finding out our Zodiac traits. This week was rounded off with a trip to Intech Science Centre with both James’ Place Basingstoke and Andover, we all love a good get together.

Visitors and visits

We have been lucky enough to visit Andover twice this month, once for our First ever inter-location sports day and for a more relaxing Teddy Bears Picnic, both events attended by all locations.

Our young friends from Bright Horizons marked the leaving of some children by inviting members over for lunch.  We wish our Preschool friends the best of luck in ‘Big’ School and can’t wait to meet the younger children moving into the preschool room.  We made each child a bespoke handmade card as a farewell and good luck gift.

We were invited to Brendancare to enjoy an afternoon of friendship, fun and music in the sun.

Tommy and his guide dog Toby (who stole the show) visited and gave an inspiring talk about their journey together, we look forward to raising money for the Guide Dogs for the Blind society in the future.

Pampered Piggies were a hit again, supplying us with cuddles, which are always firm favourites.
