Hello JP Readers,

What another wonderful month where members have been building confidence and learning new skills through a wide range of engaging activities. From exploring new painting styles with dinosaur art to developing cooking skills by trying different recipes, everyone has been enjoying new experiences. Members have also been learning important life skills such as understanding money, ordering from a menu, and working together during a fun group bowling trip that encouraged socialising and teamwork

Members at James’ Place recently had the opportunity to explore the exciting painting technique of marbling to create their own colourful dinosaur silhouette artwork. Using a mix of bright paints and swirling patterns, members experimented with different colour combinations and techniques to produce unique backgrounds before adding their dinosaur silhouettes on top. The activity encouraged creativity, self-expression, and confidence, with everyone taking pride in their finished pieces and enjoying the chance to try something completely new.

At James’ Place, we are passionate about promoting self-confidence and independence by ensuring activities are broken down into simple, step-by-step stages that are accessible for every

member involved. By offering guidance, encouragement, and the opportunity to work at their own pace, members are supported to develop new skills in a positive and enjoyable environment.

Each month at James’ Place, members enjoy learning a new recipe to help develop their cooking skills, confidence, and independence in the kitchen. This month, members worked together as a team to make a delicious quiche, taking part in every step from preparing the ingredients to mixing and assembling the filling.

Throughout the session, members shared conversations about the different types of quiches they had tried before and discussed their own personal preferences and favourite flavours.

The activity encouraged teamwork, communication, and decision-making, while giving everyone the opportunity to enjoy trying something new in a fun and supportive environment.

At James’ Place, we are always looking for engaging ways to help members develop important everyday life skills. This month, members focused on learning about money and how to apply budgeting skills when ordering food at a café. To make the activity fun and interactive, we transformed the JP Barn into our very own “JP Café.” Each member was given a budget of £5 and encouraged to choose breakfast items from the menu while making sure they stayed within their spending limit. Members practised reading menus, making choices, handling money concepts, and communicating their orders confidently. After placing their orders, members worked together to cook the breakfast items they had chosen before sitting down together to enjoy them for lunch. The activity was a fantastic way to build confidence in choice making and independence.

Members recently enjoyed a fantastic trip to Reading for a fun game of bowling, where teamwork, encouragement, and laughter filled the day.

Throughout the games, members supported one another by cheering each other on and celebrating every time pins were knocked down. It was wonderful to see everyone building confidence, socialising, and enjoying the friendly competition together.

A few members were especially proud to score a strike, which brought lots of excitement and celebration from the whole group. What a wonderful day, where members can celebrate their friends’ successes.
