June is coming to an end, and what a month it has been! I’m not entirely sure where to begin because it has truly been a month like no other. So, let’s take a trip back through the weeks and relive some of the wonderful moments we shared.
We kicked off the month by celebrating one of our wonderful members’ birthdays. No birthday is complete without cake, and of course, a game of pass the parcel – because let’s be honest, you’re never too old for a party game!
The celebrations continued outdoors with a garden fête, setting the tone for a week full of laughter, creativity and friendly competition. Members enjoyed creating a colourful beach-themed sensory scene and had great fun getting hands-on with some ocean slime.
The competitive spirit soon made an appearance as everyone took on the challenge of building a boat that would float and designing the ultimate sandcastle. Hayley and Michelle had the very difficult
task of judging the entries, but as far as we were concerned, every member was a winner!
We rounded off the week with more games, plenty of smiles and some delicious, refreshing fruit kebabs – the perfect way to celebrate the start of summer.
Week two was all about our amazing emergency services. It’s an important topic, and a little reminder of what to do in an emergency never hurts. The best way to learn? By having fun, of course!
Members put their knowledge to the test with a lively game of Emergency Services charades, enjoyed a few rounds of the traffic light game, and took part in a matching activity that sparked plenty of discussion about the different emergency services, when to call them, and how to get help if it’s needed.
A quick trip to the shops to pick up goodies for Lunch Club added to the week’s adventures before we welcomed our wonderful
volunteer, Lily, who visited with one of her colleagues to deliver a hands-on first aid and CPR session. Members were fantastic, confidently demonstrating CPR techniques and proving they had been paying close attention.
To round off the week, everyone got creative, making thoughtful cards, gifts and thank-you hampers for our local emergency service teams. The finishing touch? Members proudly hand-delivered them themselves as a small token of appreciation for the incredible work, care and dedication our emergency services show every single day. We ended the week with another birthday which ultimately meant more cake with friends
As Monday rolled around once again, so did another excuse to celebrate with cake and ice cream – the third birthday of the month! We certainly weren’t complaining, and it was the perfect way to start another action-packed week.
Next up was our annual Sports Day, and we all climbed aboard the minibus and headed to Andover for a fantastic day filled with fun, laughter and plenty of team spirit. Everyone gave every event their absolute best, but one of the biggest highlights had to be soaking the team (and anyone else brave enough to get involved!) with wet sponges and water pistols. Safe to say, no one stayed dry for long!
While everyone was a winner, congratulations went to the Blue Team,
who proudly held on to their Sports Day title for the second year running. Of course, after all that excitement, there was only one way to cool down – a well-earned visit from the ice cream van, which was definitely one of the favourite moments of the day.
The fun didn’t stop there! Later in the week, members enjoyed a trip to Orange Rooms Nightclub, where a brilliant afternoon of music, dancing and laughter was had by all. With great friends, fantastic tunes and of course blue cocktails, it was the perfect way to round off another unforgettable week.
Well… what can I say? In all honesty, what an absolute scorcher of a week!
As the temperatures continued to climb, our plans changed slightly as staying cool became the order of the day. Most of the week was spent with our feet in cool water, fans working overtime, everyone taking turns to enjoy the air-conditioned garden room, and an endless supply of ice lollies keeping smiles on our faces.
Sadly, the garden was simply too hot to enjoy, but we made the most of the shaded side of the building instead. Extra parasols were put up, and the paddling pool became a very popular spot for a quick ten-minute dip to cool off before heading back for more fun.
Despite the heat, everyone’s spirits remained high, and it was wonderful to see members looking out for one another throughout the week. In between our cooling-off sessions, we embraced our inner celebrities by making our very own guitars, strutting down the red carpet like the rock stars we are, and presenting each other with medals worthy of true superstars.
The weather may have turned the heat up to maximum, but it certainly didn’t dampen our spirits. If anything, it reminded us that with a little teamwork, plenty of laughter and more than a few ice lollies, we can make the best of anything!
