June has been another busy and exciting month here in Andover, packed with fun activities, memorable events and plenty of reasons to smile. We even had to contend with a week of soaring temperatures, but everyone kept cool with a slower pace, plenty of shade and, of course, lots of ice lollies! A huge thank you to everyone for your support and cooperation during the hot weather—we’re hoping for a more comfortable summer from here on.

One of the highlights of the month was our much-anticipated annual Sports Day, where all of our locations came together to compete for the coveted trophy. The day was filled with laughter, teamwork and friendly competition, with events ranging from the classic egg-and-spoon race to problem-solving challenges, penalty shootouts and everyone’s favourite, Soak the Staff! After all their hard work, everyone was treated to a well-earned ice cream. Congratulations to the Blue Team for taking home this year’s trophy, and a huge well done to every single participant for making the day such a fantastic success.

Health, fitness and staying active continue to be a huge focus for us. Our weekly yoga sessions, many of which are member-led, remain incredibly popular, alongside circuits, fitness bingo and plenty of energetic dance sessions. This month, we were also delighted to take part in a 12-week dance programme with the wonderful Amanda. It has been inspiring to watch everyone build confidence, develop new skills and simply enjoy moving their bodies. Meanwhile, several of our members have continued attending an ongoing squash programme at Winchester Leisure Centre, and we couldn’t be prouder of the progress they have made in both ability and confidence. Keep up the fantastic work!

The beautiful sunshine has also meant plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. We’ve made the most of trips to the local parks and peaceful nature walks, taking advantage of the stunning woodland that surrounds us. Spending time in nature has been a wonderful way for everyone to relax, explore and enjoy the fresh air.

Our weekly cooking sessions continue to be a favourite with both members and staff. Chef Wendy and her team have been creating some delicious meals, including BBQ chicken flatbreads, jacket potatoes and some truly irresistible desserts. It’s always fantastic to see everyone so willing to try new recipes and flavours, making each session both fun and rewarding.

We also enjoyed joining our friends from our other locations for an afternoon of dancing at the Orange Rooms nightclub in Southampton. This much-loved event gives members the opportunity to experience a fun night out, filled with music, laughter and the chance to make new friends. The smiles, dance moves and enthusiasm on display made it another unforgettable occasion.

Throughout June, we’ve explored a wide variety of themes, from celebrating the start of Wimbledon with a refreshing non-alcoholic Pimm’s to learning about the emergency services and enjoying all things celebrity. Our regular sensory sessions and education hours have continued to provide the perfect balance, giving members opportunities to learn new skills, stimulate their minds and then unwind in a calm, relaxing environment.

As we reach the halfway point of the year, it’s a wonderful opportunity to reflect on everything we’ve achieved together over the past six months. We are incredibly proud of our members, grateful for the continued support of families and staff, and excited for everything still to come. If the first half of the year is anything to go by, we know the months ahead will be filled with even more fun, friendship and fantastic memories.
