As the summer months come to a close, we take this opportunity to reflect on the wonderful experiences we have shared at JP Andover. Our gardens thrived, our allotments flourished, and we made the most of the sunshine. While the extreme heat occasionally slowed our pace, these quieter moments allowed us to appreciate the simplicity of life, engage in meaningful conversations, and enjoy music together.
This summer, we celebrated the joys of the harvest season. In addition to reaping our own crops, we crafted miniature scarecrows that now adorn our gardens, adding a whimsical touch to our surroundings.
Our talented staff member, Louise, continued to foster creativity through the JP Sewing Club, which meets every Wednesday. Members have produced remarkable pieces reflecting our weekly themes, enhancing their hand-eye coordination, concentration, and sewing skills. These creations also serve as heartfelt gifts for their loved ones.
Our dance sessions with Amanda remained a highlight, with members delighting in perfecting their routines and showcasing their talents. Dance not only promotes physical fitness but also serves as a wonderful medium for self-expression and creativity, welcoming participation from all our members. Music and singing have been integral to our daily activities, with many members enjoying either participation or performance, showcasing their hidden talents.
As the weather began to cool,
we welcomed additional outdoor activities, including ‘In Nature’ yoga and mindfulness sessions. Members expressed gratitude and positivity during these sessions, fostering a spirit of kindness that resonates throughout our team. Our craft room saw a surge in creativity, as members engaged in kite-making and summer wreath crafting, with some beautiful wreaths displayed as you enter the building.
Throughout August, we continued to offer a range of engaging sessions, including gardening, sensory activities, and educational hours, allowing members to explore their interests. We are particularly excited to introduce structured Makaton sessions, led by Laura and Megan, beginning in September. Makaton, an invaluable tool for communication, will further enrich the experiences of our members.
In our kitchen, Chef Wendy and her culinary team have produced exquisite meals that delight both members and staff alike. This month, a particular favorite was the homemade ice cream, a perfect treat to enjoy on warm summer days.
Looking ahead, we have several exciting events planned as we transition into the autumn months. Mark your calendars for our annual Halloween Party on Wednesday, October 28th, where fancy dress is warmly welcomed. On Wednesday, November 18th, we will host a Pyjama Party to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society. Finally, our Christmas Party will take place on Thursday, December 17th, and we are honored to support the Andover Food Bank this holiday season. Phoebe will coordinate Christmas boxes for children in need, and we invite contributions of toys or small gifts to support this important initiative.
For further details on these upcoming events, please do not hesitate to ask a member of our staff at the gate. We look forward to sharing more information soon, and we thank you for being part of our community at JP Andover.
