August at James’ Place Adult Daycare
August has been another busy, fun-filled month at James Place, with lots of opportunities to learn new things, spend time together and make the most of the summer. From exploring harvest time and enjoying the great outdoors to camping, cooking, dancing and exciting trips out, there has been plenty going on!
We started the month with our Harvest Time theme, where we learned all about harvest and where our food comes from. We explored the different fruits and vegetables that are harvested at this time of year and talked about how food is grown and brought to our tables. It was a great opportunity to learn while enjoying some fun and practical activities together.
Our Outdoor Activities theme gave us plenty of chances to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. We played lots of group outdoor games, encouraging everyone to get involved, have fun and enjoy some friendly competition. Being outdoors also gave us the opportunity to enjoy some fresh air, exercise and social time together.
Next up was Camping Week, which was a real adventure! We worked together to put up a tent and talked about everything we might need if we were heading off on a camping trip. From tents and sleeping bags to food and other camping essentials, we explored what it takes to prepare for a camping adventure.
We also enjoyed another Cook Your Own Lunch during Camping
Week. Together, we made a delicious campfire stew, followed by homemade s’mores for dessert. The s’mores were definitely a favourite and proved to be a very big hit!
It was fantastic to see everyone getting involved with preparing, cooking and, of course, enjoying the finished meal together.
The weather has certainly kept us on our toes this month! We have experienced some very hot days, so we’ve made sure to take plenty of breaks, stay hydrated and find some shade when needed. Thankfully, the weather has started to cool down, making it much more comfortable to enjoy our outdoor activities and trips.
We’ve also had some fantastic adventures away from James Place. We enjoyed a lovely visit to The Look Out Discovery Centre, where there was plenty to explore and discover. We also headed to Blackwood Forest for some peaceful time surrounded by nature, enjoying the shade of the trees and taking in the beautiful surroundings.
Of course, our Friday dance sessions with Move Momentum have continued throughout the month and are still just as popular and enjoyable as they were during our very first session. There is always plenty of music, movement, laughter and, most importantly, lots of smiles.
August has been a fantastic month full of learning, independence, new experiences, friendship and fun. We’re excited to see what adventures September will bring!
