This month we had an amazing month, it was full of exciting crafts, games, outdoor adventures and trips.
We started the month celebrating Guy Fawkes night. We enjoyed creating rockets, fireworks displays and worked in groups to make edible breadsticks with melted chocolate and sprinkles on the top, they looked extremely effective! We watched several clips explaining why we celebrate the 5th of November and created mini pennies for the Guy Fawkes dolls out of fabrics in the craft room.
Our movie inspired week included days based upon, ‘Worzel and Gummidge’, ‘Grease’ and ‘UP’. We all created scarecrow jars in the craft room in the morning, so that we could put nibbles in, while watching a short clip of ‘Worzel Gummidge’ in the afternoon. The jars looked amazing and everyone enjoyed making them! Our members created ‘UP’ inspired houses with balloons attached to reflect the film!
During our kindness week we made 3D flowers with positive affirmations and words which we would use to describe ourselves, we used different materials, textures and colours. We also made kindness glitter jars to take home to reflect how we feel about one another, to take home at the end of the day.
As the cold winter has been approaching, we have been enjoying spending a bit more time in the snooker room, playing pool with each other. The atmosphere is lovely with music playing and our members dancing around the room while enjoying a game of snooker!
Throughout November, we have been on several trips to Marwell Zoo, it has been amazing. On the Monday trip we saw the sloth which is a rare sighting!! We captured some lovely photos of everybody enjoying seeing the animals, the giraffe was also a very popular sighting!
Tracy, Phoebe and Casey enjoyed a trip to Hilliers Garden Centre with a few members for the morning this week. As the season of Christmas begins, the garden centre was beautifully decorated, it looked magical as we walked through and viewed all the Christmas food, gifts, and lights.
A few of us went on a trip to Tesco’s and B&M to buy our ingredients for the coffee morning next week, which we are hosting in our unit here at James’s Place. We are making lots of lovely sweet treats and cakes to sell. We also picked up some bulbs for the garden, which we are going to start next week!
As we approach the end of the month, the theme of the last week has been life skills, on one day we all went in the hall and made vegetable pasta bake and jacket potatoes, which we enjoyed for our lunch. We all cleaned up and tidied away what had been used to prepare the food and then enjoyed a quiz and bingo, it was a fantastic day!!
We also made clocks in the craft room, to improve the use and importance of telling the time. Many activities during this week helped with understanding how to develop and use the skills on a day-to-day basis. We all encouraged helping each other tidy up the unit at the end of the day as well as enjoying puzzles and memory games which is also great for improving motor skills, concentration and communication skills.
