What a busy month we have had at Eastleigh.

Nature in Winter kicked our themes off for this month, exploring the community with some woodland walks. We made a beautiful window display after discussions on animals and their habitats. We have sponsored our own penguin called Waterfront and we have enjoyed tracking it she lives in Argentina; did you know a penguin will mate for life?  Our sponsorship of Waterfront helps conservation of the animals.  Members made some very cute penguin bookmarks in honour of her.  The nursery came to visit and members and children enjoyed collaborating to help ‘free’ trapped animals in ice (don’t worry no animals were hurt in this activity).

Nostalgia week

We brought back memories of school days baking a school cake and enjoyed parlour games such as charades.  We tested our muscles making homemade butter.  Members enjoyed finding photographs from books to create a collage of all things nostalgic.

Burns Night

We all enjoyed trying on a kilt and having a highland fling to the tones of bagpipes playing in the background.  Thistle shaped shortbread was a big hit.  Members got creative painting Scottish highlands remembering to add texture by putting some sheep and fluffy clouds.  We took a break from all things Scottish having a trip out on the local bus to The Orange Rooms night club for a inclusive disco with all our friends from James’ Place Basingstoke, Andover and other friends we have made from colleges and school.  We danced the afternoon away and everyone slept well that evening.

Chinese New Year

As always, we enjoy celebrating all traditions and Chinese New Year was no different, we have crafted Pandas, danced as dragons, made lanterns, wrote red letters, made orchid plants.  We made and opened fortune cookies.  A little healthy competition between the members was created with the chopstick game our highest score was 86.. that was an amazing 86 items picked up with chopsticks…
