Dear Gentle JP Readers, what a wonderful month it has been at James’ Place!

August has been packed full of fun, laughter, and plenty of adventures. From setting. sail on the water with Wet Wheels to cheering each other on at our lively Sports Day, our members have truly made the most of the summer. We soaked up the festival atmosphere at the Princess Festival, wandered through fields of golden blooms on our sunflower picking trip, and baked up a storm with our very own JP British Bake Off. To top it all off, we had some extra-special furry visitors at the end of the month – adorable puppies that stole everyone’s hearts! So much joy and activity, August has flown by in the blink of an eye.

Here’s a little look back at the highlights of this unforgettable month at James’ Place.

A Water Adventure

Our members enjoyed the thrill of the open water with a fantastic trip on ‘Wet Wheels’, setting sail from the lively Portsmouth harbour. Surrounded by the sights and sounds of this historic waterfront, everyone had the chance to take in the impressive views – from the iconic Spinnaker Tower to the busy ferries and naval ships passing by. The boat ride gave members the perfect mix of excitement and relaxation, with the sea breeze in their hair and the waves gently splashing against the hull. For many, it was their first time experiencing the harbour from the water, making it even more memorable. The sense of adventure brought endless smiles and laughter, echoing across the water and leaving everyone with cherished memories of a truly special day.

James’ Place Sports Day 2025

This year’s Sports Day was held at our Andover location, and what a fantastic day it turned out to be! From the moment the teams were announced – Red, Blue, and Yellow – the excitement was in the air. Members proudly wore their colours and cheered for their teammates, creating a wonderful buzz of encouragement and team spirit all day long. The games got underway with a lively mix of activities, including parachute games that had everyone laughing, a competitive bean bag toss, football shootouts that showed off some brilliant skills, and a high-energy water sprint that quickly became a crowd favourite. One of the most talked-about stations was “Soak the Staff” – and of course, the members made the most of their chance to give the staff a good drenching! It was all in great fun, and the laughter could be heard right across the field.

“The best part of the day was spraying the water gun at Guy!”

After all that running, throwing, and cheering, members were treated to a very special surprise – the arrival of the ice cream van. With cones and lollies in hand, everyone enjoyed a well-earned cool down in the sunshine before the final events of the day. The grand finale brought everyone together for a traditional egg-and-spoon race, where balance, determination, and lots of giggles made it one of the highlights of the day. Finally, we gathered for the awards ceremony to celebrate everyone’s achievements. While the Blue Team proudly lifted the winners’ trophy this year, each team was recognised for their effort, enthusiasm, and teamwork. It was a day filled with fun, laughter, and togetherness – the perfect reminder of what makes our James’ Place community so special. Congratulations again to the Blue Team and to the members who made the day unforgettable!

Fairytale Festival

The ‘Princess Festival in Alton’ brought a wonderful touch of sparkle and enchantment to August at James’ Place. From the moment members arrived, there was excitement in the air as tiaras were adjusted, gowns and costumes were admired, and everyone embraced the royal theme. One of the biggest highlights was the live performances from much-loved Disney princesses. Elsa, Ariel, and Rapunzel each took to the stage to sing their iconic songs, creating a magical atmosphere that had everyone joining in. Between songs, the princesses ran dancing games like Simon Says, bringing lots of laughter and plenty of chances for members to show off their best moves. The festival atmosphere in Alton was bright and colourful, with decorations, music, and excitement all around. Meeting favourite princess characters made it a truly unforgettable day.

Flower Power

One of the most beautiful outings this month was our trip to ‘Rotherwick Pick Your Own’, where members were greeted by row after row of towering golden sunflowers stretching towards the sky. The fields were a sea of sunshine, providing the perfect backdrop for laughter, photos, and happy chatter. Members enjoyed wandering through the blooms, breathing in the fresh summer air, and carefully selecting their favourite flowers to take home as a special keepsake of the day. In addition to picking flowers, members took time to relax and soak up the scenery, sitting among the sunflowers and enjoying refreshing drinks in the warm sunshine. The simple pleasures of nature, combined with good company and a moment to pause, made the outing extra special.

JP British Bake Off

August saw the return of our very own James’ Place Bake Off, and this time, members worked together to create a single masterpiece: a delicious carrot cake made using fresh carrots harvested straight from our own allotment. The team rolled up their sleeves, measured, mixed, and baked with care, turning homegrown ingredients into a beautiful, tasty creation.

Puppy Pals

To round off August, we had the absolute delight of welcoming a litter of adorable puppies to James’ Place! Members were overjoyed to meet the tiny bundles of fur, spending time cuddling, playing, and sharing gentle pats with each of the little pups. The room was filled with excited giggles, happy barks, and wagging tails as everyone enjoyed the irresistible company of their new furry friends. As we say goodbye to this busy and joyful month, we look forward to more adventures, smiles, and shared experiences in the months ahead. August has reminded us just how much fun can be had, and how special it is to
