Happy New year, and what a start of the year it was.
The month began with National Storytelling Week, members were encouraged to create their own stories with the aid of pictures of familiar people and places to connect the story together, we had many interesting stories and some semi-factual ones including the team visiting the pub! We also celebrated National Braille Day – did you know Braille was invented by Louis Braille who at the time was only 15 years old, inspired by this members who wrote their own names in Braille.
Week 2 was Hobby Week
Many Hobbies were explored and the location was a hive of activity from basketball to 4D snakes and ladders members, and the team alike brought forward their favourite past times to share with each other. We joined our friends at Fleming House Nursing Home to wind back the musical clock into the rock and roll era, playing a game to match the song to the artist and then create an Andy Warhol inspired picture. These interactions really embed us into the community that in mind we also had a visit from our young friends at Bright Horizons Nursery where there came splish splashing over in their welly boots to join us in some messy art and explore our location one of their favourite things to do is count our fish, I am happy to say we still had 6 after our Christmas Break.
Week 3 Bird Watching,
RSPB Birdwatch 2026 – members used tea breaks and lunch breaks to really look at the birds in the garden and take note of which birds visit our garden for the annual bird count. We have the most beautiful bird bingo game which was a sure winner over the week, some of the birds had the most entertaining names, I will leave you to ponder which birds made us giggle. Bird food was topped up into the feeders and members made fat balls to help the birds find food. One group spent a period threading cereal loops onto string to be hung out into the trees. One particularly windy walk in our local park spotted many magpies and the team and members spent some time saluting them
Week 4 Countries
We spent Monday looking at Australia making cork hats and baking Anzac biscuits just in time for tea break time. Tuesday, we held our weekly lunch club with a warming winter chicken stew and dumplings, followed by plum crumble and custard. Members worked together to create a meal that we all shared developing many skills including food hygiene, food preparation, teamwork, organisation and independence skills. Wednesday was a trip to Italy to make mini Tiramisu puddings to gift to someone at home. Thursday some of our members took a trip to The Orange Rooms nightclub to dance the afternoon away.
