This month at james place we have been very busy having lots of fun! Our themes this month included Valentines, farming, vintage and Disney, everyone loved it!
For valentine’s day we created crafty caterpillars, ‘key to my heart’ hanging decorations, pocket hugs and love is in the hair scrunchies! The members loved creating their own valentine’s day cards for parents and family members, they put lots of effort and hard work into the cards!
Disney week included creating sensory princess potions, collaging different materials onto the princess dress’s, stencil art, Winnie the Pooh honey pots which had positivity quotes in, the members created lots of fantastic crafts to take home!
Enjoying listening to Disney tunes and dancing, the members enjoyed creating minnie mouse cupcakes, headbands, heart wreaths and lots more!
Farming week included several visits to a farm in Salisbury while some were making chicken coops in the craft room and chicken plushies! The members also made a cow inspired box with a plastic glove filled with water to show how to milk a cow, it was very fun!
We have been re vamping aprons to use in the gardening room! A few members have enjoyed drawing and using vegetable templates to copy onto the apron to then paint afterwards! The members have been spending more time in the gardening room this month, organising the room for starting the herb garden soon! A few members helped create the herb garden trolly to go outside, it looks amazing!
A small group enjoyed visiting Newbury retail park this month to browse round the shops, as well as Riverbourne Farm and The Village Pub. As the sun has started to come out, we have also been enjoying starting the gardening process here at James Place, a few of us have been clearing the flower beds and the summer house and planting some bedding flowers out the entrance of JP.
The new sensory room has been wonderful, the atmosphere of everyone enjoying the room has been lovely to see. The room is filled with laughter, joy and happiness every single day. The ball pit and interactive lights have been a hit! We have also started using tuff tray in the hall and experimenting with different sensory materials, the members loved all the bright colors and different textures, it was very messy and fun!
The members have started a new project of a paper Mache volcano, it is for next month during our science week! We are all excited as the volcano each week has been getting larger! It looks fantastic!
On Fridays our members have taken part in cooking sessions, we learnt Makaton signs for the ingredients, everyone got chance to peel/chop, and then cook what we were making, when it was ready we all had the opportunity to eat our finished dish for lunch.
Each week we have been using the hall for dance sessions when Basingstoke JP have been visiting us for lunch! It is lovely everybody dancing and socializing with there friends!
