Dear Gentle JP Readers, what a vibrant and busy month it’s been! July has been bursting
with fun, flavour, and fresh air. We have been cooking up a storm with healthy lunches, getting
hands-on at our local pick-your-own strawberry farm, and enjoying our new JP ball-pit. Our
allotment has rewarded us with a colourful harvest of vegetables, and we’ve been out and
about supporting our local businesses in Basingstoke. To top it all off, we’ve soaked up the
summer sunshine with joyful seaside adventures. A great way to start summer!

Eat Good, Feel Good
This month at James’ Place, our members have been exploring the importance of healthy
eating and how nutritious food choices can positively impact both physical health and overall
wellbeing. Through interactive discussions and hands-on activities, they’ve gained a better
understanding of balanced meals, portion control, and the benefits of incorporating more
fruits and vegetables into their diets. Putting their knowledge into practice, the group worked
together as a team to prepare a colourful and flavourful vegetable stir fry, filled with fresh
ingredients. They also learned how to make soft, homemade chapatis from scratch—rolling,
kneading, and cooking with care and collaboration. In the spirit of healthier habits, our
members have also been experimenting with fruit in their baking, adding natural sweetness
and extra nutrition to their homemade treats. Whether it’s banana muffins, apple crumble, or
berry oat bars, it’s been a fun and delicious way to create healthier alternatives while still
enjoying something sweet.
A Berry Good Day

This month, our members enjoyed a sunny day out at Bourne Valley, where they had the
opportunity to pick their own strawberries straight from the fields. It was a fun and rewarding
experience, with everyone carefully selecting the ripest, juiciest berries to bring back to
James’ Place. Once back, the strawberries were put to good use in the kitchen—some were
blended into refreshing smoothies, while others became the star ingredient in a variety of
homemade bakes. The members loved turning their hand-picked produce into delicious and
healthy treats. The outing not only supported local farming but also helped reinforce the
value of fresh, seasonal ingredients in everyday cooking.
Rooted Rewards – From Plot to Plate

Our members have been getting stuck in at the allotment this month, helping to harvest the
vegetables they proudly sowed earlier in the year. With trowels in hand and big smiles on
their faces, they picked a colourful variety of homegrown produce, including parsnips,
tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, and broad beans. It’s been a fantastic way for everyone to
connect with nature, learn about where their food comes from, and enjoy the rewards of their
hard work. As we look ahead to the autumn, the group also planted our pumpkin plant into
the vegetable patch—ready and growing strong in time for some Halloween fun later in the
year!

Ball of Fun!
Our new JP ball pit has quickly become a favourite feature among our members, bringing
both joy and a valuable sensory experience to the space. It’s especially beneficial for
individuals who seek tactile sensory stimulation, offering a safe and engaging environment to
relax, explore, and unwind. The different textures, colours, and movement within the ball pit
provide a calming and therapeutic effect for many. Of course, it’s not just the members who
are enjoying it—the JP team has had plenty of laughs and light-hearted moments diving in
too! It’s been a wonderful addition that supports wellbeing while adding a whole lot of fun to
our day.

Sand, Sun and Smiles
This month, our members took a trip to Bournemouth Beach to soak up the sunshine and
enjoy a well-deserved day by the sea. With the warm breeze, golden sand, and sound of the
waves, it was the perfect setting for relaxation and fun. Everyone had a wonderful time
walking along the shore, dipping their toes in the water, and sharing laughs with friends. The
day was filled with joy, ice creams, and plenty of photo-worthy moments—creating lasting
memories and strengthening the special friendships within our JP community. It was a truly
uplifting experience that left everyone smiling and already looking forward to the next
seaside adventure.

July has been full of fun, learning, and sunshine at James’ Place! Our members cooked
healthy lunches, harvested vegetables from the allotment, and picked strawberries at Bourne
Valley to use in baking and smoothies. We made the most of the summer weather with a
joyful trip to Bournemouth Beach and lots of laughter in our new JP ball pit, which offers
great sensory benefits too. It’s been a fantastic month of making memories together!
