Dear gentle JP Readers,

We’re so pleased to share that Reading West is now open. Over the past weeks, the James’ Place Barn has already begun to feel like a warm and welcoming space, thoughtfully designed to offer comfort, calm, and connection. With plenty of room to breathe and several breakout spaces, the Barn includes two art rooms, a large kitchen for sitting together and sharing moments, and a multi-sensory room create to help people feel grounded and at ease. It has been lovely to see members already enjoying a range of activities within the space.

Ready, Set, Bake

This month, we have been making the most of our spacious kitchen, coming together with our Basingstoke location to create a delicious cheesecake inspired by The Great British Bake Off. The kitchen quickly became a hub of activity, laughter, and shared focus as everyone took on a role in the process. Members really enjoyed working as a team; bashing up the biscuit base, carefully melting the butter, whipping the cream, and adding their own creative touches when it came to decorating the top. Moments like these offers more than just the chance to make something tasty. They create space for connection, confidence, and collaboration, allowing members to enjoy being present with one another in a relaxed and supportive environment. We’re really looking forward to spending more time cooking and baking together in the James’ Place kitchen, and to exploring a range of healthy, nourishing recipes in the months ahead.

Winter Walks

The countryside surrounding the James’ Place Reading Barn has quickly become a much-loved part of Reading West Barn. Nestled in the heart of the Yattendon Estate, an area famously known for its Christmas trees, the Barn is surrounded by peaceful woodland and open countryside that invites gentle exploration. Members have really enjoyed walking through the local woods, taking time to slow down and notice the changing seasons, the sounds of nature, and the wildlife that calls this area home. One of the highlights has been discovering the Christmas trees growing just next door, something that brought a real sense of curiosity and shared excitement. These outdoor moments have offered space to breathe, reflect, and connect — both with nature and with one another. Being able to step outside into such a calming environment has already become a valued part of life at the Barn, and we can’t wait to continue exploring further and discovering what other exciting adventures and hidden gems are waiting for us nearby.

Out and About

Recently, our members enjoyed a lovely trip to the local garden centre, where they had the chance to explore the shop and take in all the colourful plants and garden treasures on display. It was a cheerful and stimulating outing, with everyone enjoying wandering around at their own pace and discovering something new. The visit was made even more special with a refreshing treat in the garden centre café, giving members a chance to relax, chat, and enjoy a little moment of indulgence together.
